Philadelphia Police Department districts each have their own station. Call 911 for emergencies, including any crash with injuries. For a non-emergency question, call your local district. After a crash, the written crash report comes from the City’s Department of Records, not the district station.

How to Get a Crash Report in Philadelphia
- Who issues it: the Philadelphia Department of Records handles crash report requests.
- Online: request the report through the City’s crash report portal. Reports are usually available about 2 to 3 weeks after the crash.
- What you need: the date and location of the crash and the 12-digit DC number the officer gave you.
- In person: Department of Records, City Hall, Room 170, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Questions: (215) 686-2266.
- Cost: a fee applies. Check the current amount with the Department of Records.
Read the report carefully once you get it. If names, insurance details or the description of the crash are wrong, tell your lawyer. In Pennsylvania the report itself generally can’t be used as evidence at a civil trial, but insurers rely on it. See how to prove fault after a car accident.
When You Must Report a Crash
- Call the police right away if anyone is hurt or killed, or if a vehicle can’t be driven away and must be towed.
- If police did not investigate a crash like that, the driver must send a written report to PennDOT within 5 days.
- Even after a minor crash, a police report helps your claim. See do I need to call the police after an accident.
Police Report FAQ
Request it from the Philadelphia Department of Records through the City’s online crash report portal or in person at City Hall, Room 170. You’ll need the date, location and the 12-digit DC number. Reports usually take about 2 to 3 weeks to become available.
The DC number is the 12-digit report number the Philadelphia police officer gives you at the scene. It’s the easiest way to find your crash report, so keep it with your accident records.
You may still have a claim. Report the crash as soon as you can, get medical care and gather evidence such as photos and witness names. Talk to a lawyer about the best way to prove what happened.
