Yesterday’s rain brought along bad vibes with two terrible car crashes that caused the death of two people and left two more injured.
The first accident according to police report happened when Christopher French, age 43, residing in French Street along17th in North Philly, was operating his Cadillac 2000 DeVille traveling south on City Ave. in the vicinity of 59th St. in Overbrook. At around 4:20 o’clock in the morning, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle and swerved towards the northbound lanes, finally crashing into a tree and a light pole.
The impact of the crash was so immense that French’s vehicle broker apart and he was ejected from the vehicle. He was rushed to the Pennsylvania University Hospital but was pronounced dead at 6:25 o’clock that morning.
There was a second crash that occurred along Martin Luther King Drive very near the overpass in Girard Avenue. Police stated that a woman was driving a Toyota 2009 SUV going southward. At about 9:00 o’clock that morning, for unknown reasons, he veered to the northbound lane and collided heads-on into a Toyota 2005 RAV4 operated by 34-year-old husband and his wife as passenger.
The driver of the southbound vehicle and his 34-year-old spouse were rushed to the University Hospital in Pennsylvania, where the wife remained in critical condition as of yesterday sustaining head injuries.
The driver of the RAV4 and his wife, age 40, were also rushed to HUP, where the man remained hospitalized as of yesterday; but his wife, identified by police as Izabella Vekker, resident of Cherry St. near 21st in Center City, died due to critical injuries. Spokesperson of the police said that the spouse of Vekker also suffered head injuries, but she did state his present condition.
The accident in the Drive of Martin Luther King, for the present, has not yet filed charges while Accident Investigation officers continued probing the circumstances surrounding both crashes.
The 2nd car accident that occurred that morning might have been due to a heavy rain in the area. It was took place on a Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at about 9:00 o’clock in the morning along Martin Luther King Drive.
The woman who died was identified as Izabella Vekker, age 40. She was the only passenger in the RAV4 operated by her 34-year-old husband. Due to severe injuries, she was pronounced dead at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, while her husband and another female driver were injured and being treated at that same facility.
In the RAVA4 were Vekker and her husband and the 34-year-old woman was driving the SUV. According to police it was the female SUV driver who lost control and crossed over the lane and collided with the RAV4.
Vekker is a resident of Cherry Street, in the Center City area of Philadelphia.
