Meanwhile, interesting news concerns a double police pursuit around so many places that finally ended in a crash. It started when car thieves managed to escape two police chase Thursday morning but both culminated simultaneously with wrecks along the Interstate Palisades Parkway.

Closter police observed that a Honda Odyssey was running with its headlights off and also a stolen Audi 2008 at about 5:00 o’clock that morning. According to Chief Dennis Kaine of the borough police, both vehicles were made to pull over when the two men leaped out of the Audi and got into the minivan, leaving the car in drive. Closter police pursued the Honda from Closter Dock Rd. then into Alpine and south on Rte. 9W, but soon lost track of the fleeing vehicle before the traffic from neighboring departments picked it up.

Police of the Palisades Interstate Parkway were alerted regarding the minivan that was heading east along Closter Dock Rd. when they saw another police car chasing a Grand Cherokee Jeep going the same way.

Chief Christopher Belcolle reported that after the Jeep hit the driver door of the Alpine police car it continued driving off; however, the  officer was not hurt in the crash that happened  after 5:00 o’clock in the morning.

Michael Griffin and Joseph Villone of the Palisades Interstate Parkway police joined the chase starting Rte. 9W that continued to Tenafly, Englewood and Fort Lee. The Jeep went over a guardrail, hit several trees and finally overturned before it landed at the bottom of a ditch.

Meantime, the Honda also crashed a solid perimeter curb at the Sunoco PIP station southbound. Witnesses informed police that three people bolted from the van after that crash.

Coppola said that investigation is ongoing as they want to determine if the Honda was also stolen. The Jeep, according to police report was stolen from Sparkill, New York. Whether the two cases were linked or just a coincidence is now part of police investigation.
