West Chester, Pa. – At least one pedestrian was killed outside a grocery store after the victim was hit by a pickup truck that slammed into the building. Police identified the fatality as West Goshen Township Supervisor of long standing. He was just standing outside the West Chester grocery store he was killed by a pickup truck that crash into the grocery.
At around 12:30 o’clock that Wednesday afternoon, the driver of a pickup silver truck reversed right and plowed into the front of the Shoprite store at Block 1100 at West Chester Pike. The fatality was Dr. Robert White, age 77 who was standing right in the path on the sidewalk out front.
Dr. White was first hit by the truck that sent him right through the front window of the supermarket. It was then the pickup came to a stop. Police officers responded immediately to the call and immediately recognized the victim.
White was transported to the hospital sustain critical injuries and pronounced dead
after admittance to the hospital.
Police learned that the victim just left his office in the township building and went to ShopRite to get some lunch. His fellow township officials could not believed that the good doctor was gone for he just went out for lunch. They were stunned by his tragic death.
West Goshen Twp. Manager Casey LaLonde said that his passing was a devastating loss for this township. The good doctor was intricately involved in many projects it is going to be an extreme loss for this township.
Since 1980, Dr. White served the township and was elected township supervisor in 1992 where he served for four consecutive terms. He was a practicing dentist in the area. He leaves behind a wife and two grown sons.
The driver who was a young woman behind the pickup was questioned by police but authorities stated that this incident was just another unavoidable accident.
Officials said that the female driver lost control of the pickup truck that barged into parking lot of the shopping center. Along the way, it fatally hit a longtime township supervisor as it slammed into the supermarket’s wall.
Chester County hospital pronounced Robert S. White, a West Goshen Supervisor, dead he was admitted. Cause of death was the injuries he suffered after being struck by a pickup at the ShopRite Supermarket.
The West Goshen Township Community, deeply saddened by the loss of a valuable member expressed their sympathy and prayers to his family, especially to his wife and two children.
White was a well-loved member of the community as served as supervisor for the township for many years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
The female driver of the truck cooperated in the investigation, based on statement from the police.
